Simon Wood’s debut documentary directly challenged external narratives of poverty, corruption, and disease to present an alternative vision of contemporary South Africa.
Selected for IDFA in 2011 and broadcast on Al Jazeera’s Witness, the film captured an emerging middle class redefining the country's social fabric. Set amid rapid economic change, Miranda, Mpumi, Martin, and Karabo delicately balance the traditional views of their childhood with the western capitalism that rules their professional lives, selecting and discarding elements from each world to forge a new legacy for their descendants.
